Thank you for stopping by.  We hope your visit will start an appreciation for a rare treat--real extra virgin olive oil.  And it truly is a rare treat.  Estimates are that less than 10 percent of all the olive oil produced worldwide each year can really be called "extra virgin."

All Things Olive features California-produced extra virgin olive oils that have earned the yearly seal of the California Olive Oil Council.  With the term "extra virgin" undefined in the United States, the Council's seal is your only assurance that what is labeled 'extra virgin' really is 'extra virgin.'  Along with our extra virgin olive oils, we also offer citrus-flavored and herb-infused olive oils, a wide selection of tapenades, and some wonderful wine vinegars produced through the handcrafted 'Orleans' method--all from California.

We welcome you to tour our web site and find out what makes an olive oil an extra virgin olive oil.  But perhaps most importantly, we invite you to learn how the type of olive--and the time of year that olive is pressed--will determine an oil's flavor—from mild and delicate, to olive'y' and peppery, or fragrant and fruity, all the way up to leafy green and 'grassy'.  And once you know that, you will be confident in choosing the right olive oil to complement any dish you are cooking, baking, bar-b-queing, sautéing, or simply dipping.

 Recipe of the Week

Brussel Sprouts with Cranberry Balsamic Dressing

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons Robbins Family Farm Balsamic Vinegar
1 Tablespoon Water
2 Tablespoons Robbins Family Farm Ascolano Extra Virgin Olive Oil, or more to taste
3 Tablespoons Dried Sweetened Cranberries
Pinch of Salt, or more to taste
2 Pounds Brussel Sprouts of like size, cut in half starting at stem
(stem ends trimmed, outer leaves removed)

Instructions:

Combine the balsamic vinegar, water, olive oil, cranberries, and salt in a blender or food processor.  Pulse until well combined to form a dressing.  Add additional olive oil as needed.  The cranberries should be chopped, not pureed.

Bring a few inches of water to a boil in a medium saucepan.  Place the brussel sprouts in a steamer/insert over the saucepan.  Cover and steam them for 5 to 8 minutes (depending on their size) or until fork-tender.

Transfer the steamed sprouts to a serving bowl.  Add the dressing and toss to coat evenly.  Taste, and adjust the seasoning as needed.  Serve warm or at room temperature.

Serves 6 to 8
